The Lonely Child - A poem of Loneliness, Lost Mother and the Death
63
A lonely child
A lonely child
Waiting for her mother to come back from the work,
Never knew: she was already lost in the dark,
Waiting for hours, waiting for days,
Never got tired, expecting to hear mother’s voice.
A lonely child
Chased a butterfly that may be going to meet her mother
Never knew: she has passed away forever.
The child was told to count the stars, count the waves
When it ends mother will come to meet, with a new dress.
The child was sincere in counting, as time passed the number was mounting
But never could it finish counting them all,
There were too much, it always was wired
But the lonely child never got tired.
The lonely child asked its friends how they counted the starts to meet their mother;
It was desperate to know the number of star.
The lonely child
Started to count the waves of the river,
As soon as it was ended it would meet its mother,
There were too much to count,
The lonely child fall apart, never its mother was found.
The lonely child
One day decided to go deeper in the wave
It didn’t know how to swim, but it followed what it was told in dream.
The lonely child
Didn’t care going deeper and deeper
Suddenly it saw its mother image in the water
By that time under its feet there was no land left
It felt pressure in the lungs, it couldn’t breathe.
The lonely child met its mother at death.
Yet another lonely child counting the stars in the earth
It hasn’t met its mother since its birth.

Very touching. I was orphaned at 15 and I used to think that I would see someone that looked like my mother or father and I would fantasize that they weren't really dead, just missing and would come back. They never did...but I now have a lovely family that keeps me going--and grandchildren too! Very touching and poignant poem--thank you for sharing such personal feelings with us.
Beautiful thoughts, very nicely put into verse. I agree with Tammy L, "keep writing beautiful poems like this and you'll master the English language before you know it".
A young man from the birthplace of the great Rabindranath Tagore. Your nation may well be very proud of you some day... keep doing your best; your best will shine.
Wow, what child will not do what this child has done. An inner yearning for the maternal love that remained unfulfilled. Very sad, very beautiful peoem! Thank you
A sad poem but the words of it are beautiful words, voted up and also beautiful.
saleheen, your English is pretty good. It's better than some Americans I know. Anyway, keep writing beautiful poems like this and you'll master the English language before you know it. :)

I m speechless....
My belief is that we are reunited with our loved ones after death and that heaven knows no loneliness. You have captured the child's sense of loss and conveyed the searching and seeking well. Cheers.

Very touching poem. You've succeeded in bringing out the lonely child's feelings.
I wonder if loneliness can be forgotten when you know you have friends. They might not be the friends you have hoped for but they might turn out to be your best friends for life.
Loneliness is a lonely thing isn't it? Losing mother at such an age is devastating. I felt like this when my daddy died when I was 7.
I enjoyed your touching poem.A mothers love never ends.I could see me waiting also.Great lines and ending.Did you say you are learning English? What is your native tongue?I find learning Spanish so difficult and I can relate.

This is beautiful and saddening...and very real of life in rural Bangladesh. I am of Chilean origin, native Spanish speaker, and this makes me recall the poems of Gabriela Mistral, of course she was the first South American woman to win the Nobel in literature. Have you read any of her translated poetry? I enjoy your poetry immensely.

A sad yet beautiful poem of loss yet yearning for it's mother and finding her at the end in the water. One never wants to feel or see the death of a mother or father, much to painful. Nicely written, I rate it up.
Awww... it's a very sad but touching poem. Thanks for sharing a beautiful poem.
The aching desire for love rings through this along with the love of one so determined to find her mother. This brought tears to my eyes.
Dreams can often be catalysts for creative moments, such as yours. Beautiful poem-heartfelt longing.
A sense of faith in the mother is conveyed here, along with a yearning that is palpable, saleheensblog. That's what I got out of your poetry, anyway. Thank you for sharing.
