Letter from a Warrior

Dear,

It’s been long since I am away

Please, don’t shed tear.

I am a warrior

It’s my duty to save our land-mother

I will be back soon

I am in a battle of honor.

Here in our riverside camp

The sky comes down on the river

I touch the water gently

And the sky starts dancing

It breaks into waves, again calms down slowly

It reminds me your smiling face after fierce anger.

I can’t take off me eyes, I can keep watching either.

At the deep of the night,

A strange excitement comes down here

We slowly approach to the enemy and ambush

Like we used to do for catching fish

Like our home buzzing with bird chirping

This a world of sound

Fire, scream, bomb blast, commanding.

Here, nobody cries

Sometimes the evening sun, the river, the battle field

Mingle together and becomes a red monolithic

Here, red of blood is hotter than red of fire,

Here, death is spirit, life is war.

Leave these war things,

Are you taking care of yourself?

Don’t hurt our child inside you

I will bring freedom for her

I know we will have a daughter

With blood-red lips & black deep eyes

In our free land she will chase butterflies.

I will bring freedom for you, my love
I will bring freedom for you, my love

I wish I could write as long as I want

I don’t know whether this letter will reach you or not

If you ever get to read this

You must know that I will come back

If I stay alive you will see me

If I don’t, feel me in spirit

If we win you will find me in every grain of this land

If we don’t win,

Ah, if we don’t win

Never accept slavery,

Never kill yourself,

Escape anyhow and raise our child

Tell her that her father went to bring liberty for her

Tell her to forgive me

Tell her that I tried my best

Tell her that I loved her forever.

Tell her to come back here.

Your Love.

“Who are you, have you died?”

Asked the gatemen of the Death Kingdom

“We are all missing identity; we want to meet our owner”

They all replied.

“Sorry, we only accept death body.”

“No entrance”, the gatemen denied.

They all cried out and said,

“Please, listen to our story and then decide.”

The gate man felt pity on them

And asked to line up.

They did so and the interview began.

First came an old Letter wet with blood.

“I was written by a warrior who has died.

I could not reach the receiver,

I feel the heart of the man inside me, alive.”

Then a Freedom started its story.

“Hello, I am a freedom, a history of glory

My spirit was killed by the politicians of the country”

A Truth came then and said,

“I am a truth and I died when ten people lied”

Next came a Dream.

“I am a dream and I died for an ice-cream”

Everyone laughed out but the Dream continued.

“Eating a poisoned ice-cream in school died my dreamer,

You welcomed him here but I am still roaming here and there.”

Then a private dairy, a red bracelet, a flag,

And many other told their story.

At last there came Death,

Everyone wondered and asked, “How could death have died?”

Death said, “I took away a lot of lives but I saw their spirit alive.

I came here to complain against them,

And here they all are present.”

The gateman listened to all & allowed the missing identities to go in

But then, they all denied as they heard what the death was saying,

They just found their identity

They were spirits and alive.

Bodies die and get lost in the oblivion,

Spirits live forever and go on and on,

From generation to generation.

AStonishingly beautiful and deeply moving on all levels and with the 'sprit photos' having the most poignancy for me. Though I usually deal in words and not images, the spirit photos move me the most. Great work indeed!

sofs and Poohgranma, thanks a lot to both of you. I feel a great strength when I write something something like these. I don't know what type of writing these are though. I just enjoy it and I feel a great passion, a fire, a determination, an inspiration inside me when I write these.

Hauntingly beautiful poems you have written and they bring pause for thoughts of all who have given their lives for others, whether in battle of war or in rescue of those in peril.

Thanks Lita C. Malicdem. Actually I am not the warrior. I tried to capture the thoughts of a warrior.

A hero's life vivid and beautiful in all it's loneliness and yearnings as a husband, a father, a soldier. Some added thoughts about life, dream, and death is awakened within me as I read these poems. Lovely! I pray, that you are safe and your family is in good hands until your return home. God bless you!
